Employee Rights To Eat

Yesterday I was working out here at the winery and one of my friends had offered to bring me lunch, seeing as how I had forgotten to bring one. We use to have a microwave but one of the farm workers came a borrowed it and well I haven't seen it since. I am not to happy about it because I rarely keep cold lunch stuff in the fridge, so when I get to work I have nothing to heat up my lunch in. Anywho back to my story. Oh so my friend came out here and brought me lunch and we sat outside at the table and chatted blah blah... But then I noticed that one of the owners had driven by so I waved. Then almost a minute later he drove by again, so I kindly waved. Then three minutes later he drove by again. I was like hmmmm that is odd. And usually when he does drive by the winery he is halln butt. But not with these drive beys. They were a leisure drive and it was uncomfortable. He drove by about four more times when I finally said to my friend maybe you should go. So she did. I had gathered up the table clothes to throw into the laundry in the farm house and when I was going out the back door, the owner was headed for the same door. I said hi to him and he replied, so I proceeded to the farm house and he literally made a small circle on the grass and then walked back towards his truck. I thought "Ha you so got busted trying to sneak in the back door, to see if there was something you could get me in trouble for" or say that I was taking to long of a break, but I so wasn't! I was well within my time frame to be taking a break. Besides I had already gotten all of my duties done for the day Ha.

But really I couldn't believe it, that he was going to do that. I later spoke with my manager about what had happened and she totally agreed with me when I said. "I legally have the right to sit down and eat my lunch with whom ever I want to. By law they have to give me a half an hour break. And it doesn't matter when I take my break." I then told her that I didn't appreciate it that he drove by all those times and how it made me feel uncomfortable, that I was doing something wrong. I told her that they are lucky that I don't close up the winery for a half an hour to take my lunch break. They expect us to stay here the whole day once we get here, unless there is a extreme emergency. Well I think it's crap! I have no problem getting paid for six and a half hours, so I can take a lunch instead of getting paid for seven hours. But you know what don't you dare make me feel guilty for taking a lunch break when I am entitled to one. To top it off, I didn't see him the rest of the day drive by once. So that right there told me that he was doing it cause he didn't think that I should be sitting down eating. WHATEVER MAN
